WIN! Time for Change: Citizen Eco-Drive Watch

The other day, my Blackberry battery was dying more quickly than usual and it wasn’t holding a charge when I plugged the adapter into it. That’s when I realized the rechargeable battery needed to be replaced. My uneventful day became an ordeal to find a new battery, recycle the old battery and then power up the whole Blackberry again. That’s when I thought how great it would be to have a solar powered phone that never needed a battery to begin with.
Well, that imaginative product idea may not exist, but the next best thing does: the Citizen Eco Drive watch. Citizen, which is the world’s largest watchmaker, created ecologically friendly timekeeping with their Eco-Drive collection, which runs continuously on any kind of light (sunlight or artificial) for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery, which means it has no battery that needs replacing. And the technology is available in a wide variety of styles for both men and women, meaning you can get a classic, timeless watch embedded with this futuristic technology.
Now, you know what comes next: one lucky reader will get a chance to own a Citizen Eco-Drive watch and I’ve chosen one of my favorites from jcp.com. It’s a classic men’s style and I think can be worn by a man or a woman. To win, leave a comment giving one easy tip that helps the environment and is quick to do. For example, I find stuffing my shoes with newspaper helps detox them really well! Good luck!

Contest is now closed! Congrats to JULI for winning. We used a random number generator to choose the winner. Juli’s eco-tip is:
I pack flatware and a cloth napkin with my lunch. No need for plastic utensils or paper towels.

Put down newspaper around the garden, then wet it and apply mulch. The newspaper
acts as a weed block.
I think some of the best things we do is not using paper towels and napkins. No matter where we eat in the house,at work or picnics we have cloth napkins or hand towels. I am not sure when the last time we bought paper towels was…When I was asked to bring napkins last christmas to an event it was really, really hard to do so. We try and always bring our own bags when shopping - can not wait till they start charging for plastic bags in Michigan. Funny, things become a part of life and you can not easily pick and choose what you do is best for the enviroment…you just do it. Thanks for the opportunity to win this great watch - keep up the great work inspiring us to be better people on this earth!
Find local groups who are recycling old phone books. Once you collect those from around the house and the office, you’ve made quite a contribution!
Use glasses at a picnic instead of paper cups.
Buy vintage clothing! Or at least thrift store jeans. My kids always wear second hand things and I am constantly receiving comments about how well dressed they are. Plus you won’t feel so bad when they get stains. Good for the enviornment AND the wallet.
An easy one that even kids can do, and my kids do, is turning off the water while you brush your teeth.
Always turn your computer off after use, don’t use restart and leave it on overnite.
empty stale water from bedside cups into house plants! easy and useful!
I reuse old shopping bags as garbage bags for bins around the house. I use reusable bags now when I shop, but still have tons of old shopping bags. Instead of just throwing them out, I reuse them.
ALOHA Danny,
Carry a set of bamboo utensils with you from http://www.to-goware.com
You’ll reduce your forkprint keeping plastic utensils from entering a landfill.
A tip to do that’s easy and quick is to create a spot in your office for junk paper, I either find new uses for it, or put it in our recycling bin. I hope I win, I LOVE my Eco-Drive, and want to win one for my awesome boyfriend who got me mine!
Use kitchen towels instead of paper towels and linen napkins instead of paper napkins!
Easy!
I use my Method dryer cloths twice in the dryer and then use them to dust off the furniture. Triple the use from one cloth!
There are a lot of litter-bugs in our neighborhood, so when I walk the dog, I bring along a bag and pick up the plastic bottles and cans that are in our path. When I get home, I toss them into the recycling bin.
Where ever I go I carry a Sigg bottle of water. There’s no need to purchase bottled water from the stores when the filtered water from the Brita water pitcher works great! Less plastic in the landfills makes for a happier Earth.
Put a quarter of a sliced lemon down your garbage disposal instead of chemical cleaners - cleans organically and leaves your room smelling lemony fresh! (Even better - don’t use your garbage disposal and create a compost pile instead!)
